Heal your gut. Reclaim your health.
Digestive symptoms can shape what you eat, where you go, and how comfortable you feel in your own body. Our approach starts with understanding what you are experiencing and how it fits into your broader health story.
We help people seeking care for:
- IBS and ongoing changes in bowel habits, including constipation and diarrhea.
- SIBO and symptoms such as bloating, gas, nausea, and abdominal distention.
- Heartburn, indigestion, reflux, and discomfort around meals.
- Food-related symptoms, cramping, and abdominal discomfort.
We look beyond a symptom list to consider your health history, daily routines, and the patterns you have noticed, along with deeper specialty testing tailored to your circumstances and an integrative treatment model. Learn about our approach to care.
Why we look at gut health as part of your whole health
Naturopathic medicine places particular emphasis on gastrointestinal health. We believe many chronic health concerns are connected to imbalances in the digestive tract, and the relationship between gut health, chronic disease, and neurological health is an area of growing scientific interest.
The gut-brain axis describes the two-way communication between your digestive tract and brain through the microbiome, nervous system, and immune system. Imbalances in the gut microbiome, known as dysbiosis, have been linked with depression and anxiety, autism spectrum disorders, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and multiple sclerosis.
Poor gut health is also associated with systemic inflammation and conditions affecting other parts of the body, including:
- autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, Hashimoto’s, and inflammatory bowel disease
- metabolic disorders such as obesity and Type 2 diabetes
- cardiovascular disease; and skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.
This whole-person perspective helps us consider digestive symptoms alongside the other concerns you bring to your appointment.
Specialty testing to help understand your symptoms
Specialized gut and microbiome testing can help uncover imbalances in gut flora, overgrowths such as SIBO, pathogenic bacteria or yeast, and markers of inflammation, intestinal permeability, and immune activity.
Stool analysis
Stool analysis provides a comprehensive look at the gut microbiome and can help uncover digestive challenges and inflammation. It may be combined with food sensitivity testing and SIBO breath testing to better understand bloating, IBS, and reflux or indigestion. It is also considered in the context of autoimmune disease, chronic fatigue, and skin conditions. This testing is HSA/FSA applicable.
Food sensitivity testing
Food sensitivity testing evaluates delayed food reactions that may contribute to chronic health concerns. Digestive symptoms associated with food sensitivity include IBS, nausea, heartburn, gas, bloating, cramping, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, and constipation.
Other associated concerns include brain fog, chronic fatigue, weight gain, mood swings, joint pain, eczema or acne, headaches, hives, and recurrent sinus, ear, or lung infections. This testing is HSA/FSA applicable.
SIBO breath testing
Breath testing evaluates microbiome overgrowth patterns, including methanogenic bacteria and sulfide overproduction. It is commonly used when people experience bloating, nausea, gas, abdominal distention, constipation, or diarrhea.
Celiac testing
Celiac testing evaluates an autoimmune disease in which gluten, a protein found in wheat, rye, and barley, triggers an immune response that damages the intestinal lining and impairs nutrient absorption.
Celiac disease is associated with more than 300 symptoms. Bloating, nausea, and diarrhea are only part of the picture: chronic fatigue, anxiety, skin rashes, infertility, and joint pain may also be signs, and can be the first symptoms people notice.
